Peter Haythornthwaite

Peter Haythorntwaite is an acclaimed designer from New Zealand, a foundational member of the Better by Design initiative and the co-creator of the D360 programme, helping to link corporate culture and design.

Peter studied at the University of Illinois in 1966 and proceeded to work in senior positions at Henry Dreyfuss Associates in New York, and Designworks in Los Angeles.

He is the founder of är’ti-fakt-s, an office products company, and also became the Head of Design at the University of Auckland.

At present, Peter is working with his partners in Equip DesignIntegration, a design consultancy.

He proceeded to found the multidisciplinary agency Peter Haythornthwaite Design.

He is focused on building design understanding in companies and showing clients how design thinking – and doing – is essential to company culture.

Peter is also the Adjunct Professor of Design at Victoria University in Wellington.

He has received many design awards over the world for his work, including the 2003 John Britten award for outstanding achievement in design.

His work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

He was twice elected President of the Designer’s Institute of New Zealand, and is also a member of the Advisory Board of the International Design Management Institute.
