Nicolas Hogios was six when he sketched his first car, which heralded a life-long passion for automotive design. After graduating in Industrial Design (Class One Hons, Dux) at the University Of NSW, he spent a few years learning the craft in consultancy and freelance environments. In 1999 Nicolas won the inaugural Wheels magazine Young Designer of the Year award.
Work in the industry ensued, firstly at Ford and is currently in the sought-after position of Chief Designer of Product Design at Toyota Motor Corp Australia. Based in Port Melbourne, Nicolas leads the Australian design studio, heading a small design studio of around 25 staff.
His skill set involves leading creative design projects, presenting and negotiating design directions with varying specialist groups locally and regionally and anticipating future market trends. Nicolas leads varying disciplines within an automotive design studio in addition to creative design, such as digital modelling, clay modelling, studio engineering and fabrication. He has also spent a couple of years living in Japan and working within Toyota’s design headquarters’, and now visits regularly.
In addition to his passion for automotive design, Nicolas is active in the art community, and freelances in concept design for the film industry.
