Dr Andrew Walters is Director of Research and Reader in Product Design at the National Centre for Product Design and Development Research (PDR) at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Andrew leads the academic research strategy for the Centre and supervises a broad range of design research projects and doctoral students. Such projects cover, inter alia, Design Policy, Design Management, User-Centred Design, and Service Design. Andrew’s previous research has examined the application of product development processes and technologies, especially in SMEs. His current personal research focus is on the development of methods for the application of user-centric design, especially in terms of improving accessibility to user-led design and development principles. Over the past fourteen years he has worked with many SMEs and large companies on the development of improved design practice, both on research and consultancy projects. He has authored over 40
academic and professional articles and is member of both the AHRC and EPSRC Peer Review Colleges. He holds a BA in Industrial Design and a PhD on ‘The Impact of Advanced Manufacturing Technology on Small Welsh Companies’. Industry Experience
